The existing single storey house had a large garage area which was much larger than the family required and so the intention was to make better use of this space by extending the house over the garage. The family were looking for an additional living space which could also be used as an occasional guest bedroom and a new shower room and utility space.

The new extension over the garage was accessed through the existing house by removing a cupboard at the end of the existing hallway and installing a new stair which led down to the garage via a new utility space and up to the new family room and shower room. The new extension was designed to take advantage of the best views from the house to the North and also to maximise the sunlight from the South and West.
