Four care homes were designed for sites in Whalsay, Brae, Walls and Levenwick, and constructed in a rolling programme with one home completed per year.

Each home was designed to suit the individual characteristics of each site, but with a uniform design philosophy of arranging the main accommodation around a glazed courtyard to create a light atmosphere with reasonably short corridors serving rooms on one side only so that all rooms are outward looking.
